The future of AI will not be local, because you won’t be able to compete with anyone who is using centralized services. However, to some extent, centralized services could become distributed and localized. Imagine every city, every neighborhood is providing residents their own AI data center via high speed fiber, just like they generate and distribute electricity or supply water. This would be a far healthier outcome than everyone relying and depending on the big 5 AI labs and their selected subcontractors.
